How to fill up an Exemption Sheet for Battery and Battery-Powered Products? (Dangerous Goods Hazmat Product Classification)

Step 1

Fill out the first and last name of the seller (the selling account owner) in the corresponding fields. Do not enter your company name.

Step 2

Enter the ASIN of your product (e.g., B0023M098N). Do not enter the UPC / EAN / FNSKU or the product name—only the ASIN.

Important note: Do not copy/paste the product name directly from the detail page. Type it in instead to avoid formatting issues.

Step 3

If your product is not a kit (does not come with an additional battery or battery-powered devices), enter the name of your product as it appears on the detail page (Amazon webpage).

Step 4

If your product is a kit, mention all the products available in the box under "What's in the box?"

Important note: If your product includes multiple items, submit documentation for each item. For example, a shaver with a cleaning solution and battery must have exemption sheets for each component (battery and cleaning solution).

Step 5

From the drop-down menu, select if your product (or the item within a kit) is sold with a battery/batteries. Choose "Yes" if the battery is included or non-removable. If the product does not contain a battery, select "No."

Step 6

If you answered "Yes" to the battery question, select the battery composition/type your product contains (e.g., alkaline, lithium-ion, etc.).

Step 7

Choose the packaging type based on the following definitions:

  • In equipment: If the battery is pre-installed (e.g., tablet, iPhone).

  • With equipment: If the battery is packed with the device but not installed (e.g., tablet with spare battery).

  • Standalone: If the battery is sold separately (e.g., power banks).

Step 8

Provide the energy content in watt-hours (Wh) for lithium-ion batteries. You can find the Wh on the battery or calculate it using a Wh calculator (link included).

Important note: Selecting the wrong battery composition or watt-hours will lead to rejection.

Step 9

If your product contains a lead acid/lead calcium battery, indicate whether it is spillable or non-spillable. The battery and packaging must be clearly marked.

Important note: Any conflicting information will result in rejection.

Step 10

Once completed, upload your exemption sheet to Amazon.
